From time to time we have been asked to find out when a specific User logged into WinFDS and what they did while they were logged in. This information can be extracted from WinFDS if you have the necessary security access. In the following paragraphs, we will discuss how to see what Users are currently logged into WinFDS, when Users logged in and out and what modules were accessed by specific Users and when.

Security Access

We all know that WinFDS provides you with the ability to prevent specific Users from accessing specific modules or performing functions they should not be performing (as an example, purging files). A number of months ago, we provided a WinFDS Tip that discussed how to set-up security accesses. Basically, after you set up a User, you can provide them access using "SS07 - Security Access Master File".

Display Current Users Status

In the Module 'Display Current Users Status - SS21', you can see who (yellow arrow below) is logged into WinFDS, When they logged in (magenta arrow below), what specific module they are currently in (red arrow below) and when they entered that module (green arrow below). You can also see what Terminal they are logged in from (black arrow below). To learn more about Display Current Users Status - SS21 search on "SS21 - Display Current Users Status" in WinFDS Help.

Another way to open SS21 is to enter a 'W' into the 'Enter Selection' field and hit enter. The Display Current Users Status panel SS21 appears.

Note: You may notice that Terminal 211 is identified four times all with different modules opened but the same User. This is a result of the User being in OP01 and then using the 'Exec' button to open MF02 and then again using the 'Exec' button to open PC06 and then again to open SS21. The '&' symbol next to the terminal number indicates the use of 'Exec'.
